Carriage Bolts
- Carriage bolts have a dome shaped head and a square neck, and are used mostly in wood construction like docks, and outdoor decks, etc. The square neck is designed to lock into the wood as the nut is tightened to prevent the bolt from turning.
- Carriage Bolts are designed for use with Hex Nuts and generally Washers. Lock Nuts are usually not recommended, as the friction to turn them can cause the head to spin out of the wood.
- All Carriage Bolts under 6" are fully threaded, lengths over 6" will always have 6" of thread, though this excludes Stainless Steel. Please see individual products for thread length, or call us for more information.
- We carry Carriage Bolts in Grades A307 and Grade 5. A307 Carriage Bolts are available in Zinc Plated and Hot Dipped Galvanized. Grade 5 Carriage Bolts are available in Zinc Plated, or limited sizes in Hot Dipped Galvanized. We do not carry Grade 8 Carriage Bolts.
- The true length of many bolts can commonly be up to 3/16" short of the stated length.
